Willoughby Coal and Garden Center

Willoughby Coal is an operational store and is renowned in the community. The building has been used as a train depot, cheese factory, an inn and lodges. However, it was built in 1893 for use as a flour mill.

However, in 1947 the building was the scene of a death which has become infamous in Willoughby history - and some believe is the main reason why the building is haunted.

On 2nd April 1947, the body of William Norris was found in an unrecognisable state on the floor outside the front. It appeared that he had fallen to his death from the third floor, but the circumstances provoked suspicion in some quarters. Some thought he had been murdered.

Some believe Norris haunts the premises, as does the ghost of another employee who died there in the 1970's. Phenomena experienced include feelings of nausea and dread; fleeting shadows; a rushing large indistinct figure; a horrible smell; cold sports and the sounds of footsteps. EVP has allegedly been recorded.
