The Alabama Theater

The Alabama Theatre is a movie palace, built in 1927 by Paramount's Publix Theatre chain as its flagship theatre for the southeastern region of the United States. It was the largest in the Birmingham Theatre district - and is the only district theater still operating today, complete with its original Wurlitzer theater organ. Consequently, The Alabama and its historic organ were added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage in 1977, and to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The building is reputedly haunted by a shadowy apparition that has been sighted walking across the stage, and another of a woman wearing a red velvet dress. Other phenomena include the sounds of doors slamming and phantom footsteps, the stage curtain moving unusually.
